Salvage of the Philae Temples

Mostafa Shawky was a member of the joint engineering consultancy for the salvage of the Philae temples, with Dr William Selim Hanna and Dr Abdel Rahman Helmy El-Ramly. He carried out the studies and research, prepared the technical documents for the rescue from the architectural and planning side, and supervised the work on site.
In 1968 the Egyptian scheme was chosen: the temples would be dismantled and rebuilt on Agilkia Island, about 600 metres from their original site and above the highest water level. The project was inaugurated on 10 March 1980, and the international Ingersoll-Rand organisation (Italy) gave it its prize as the best project completed in 1980.
